Hello All,

I am getting started in the world of research on "telecollaboration in the teaching and learning of foreign languages" so I would love to participate in your group. I am currently teaching Spanish and French in a middle/high school in Chicago. I used to teach English in Spain, where I come from. I am looking forward to carrying out some projects using web 2.0 tools and online collaboration with my students and others world wide.

Hey Craig -- This is a good idea to have a place where folks can chat about their research interests that might spawn from this project.

Hi Elizabeth. I think we have the same field of research as both of us are doing on wiki for collaborative learning. Hope we can share more thought on it.

Hello Darci! That's great about you working on your IRB. I know the feeling because I'm at the same point in my dissertation process. Your topic sounds very interesting. My topic is researching the impact of using collaborative tools on ethnocentrism when students are positioned in different time zones. In regards to surveys to measure, I found a good survey by researching other dissertations that were associated with ethnocentrism. Also, if you have trouble finding a survey, you might want to consider doing a qualitative design that consists of only observations, interviews, and historical records/documents. If you need a good example of a dissertation that uses this method, just send me an email at cunion31@yahoo.com and I'll forward you a good example dissertation. Also, if I come across any surveys that are related to your topic, I'll forward it as well. Good luck and I'm looking forward to working with you in this group!!

I am currently working on IRB approval to look at how allowing pre-service teachers to blog about what they're learning as a student and as a student teacher affects how they view sense of community as well as the depth of reflection (compared maybe to a class where their reflections are written in papers, and not shared with a group!) Did I spark any ideas or helpful suggestions from anyone? Has anyone heard of a survey to measure sense of community in the classroom?

Hello William! Great research! You provided some good data on how we can continue to work outside the box when using web 2.0. Your comments on maximizing the use of facebook with web 2.0 was well received. Also, I will definitely put this information in my tool box as reference material. Is this a peer reviewed/published journal article? In any case it provided great data and thanks for sharing it with the group!
