"This Flat Classroom connection is a fascinating view into what is "normal" and what gets left out in each district or country. We are planning a 1:1 implementation for next year and although our teachers are pretty aware of NETS, they are…"

Tracey Bryan commented on Susan Adams's blog post Technology makes great work easy -- Right??
"I would add that we need a plan based on standards. I find that often teachers at my school have no idea what the Nets standards for students are let alone those for teachers, administrators, or coaches. We often do not really think about…"

Technology makes great work easy -- Right??

Everyone knows we are in an era of technology. We have the world at our fingertips. Parents are adamant that their kids learn how to use technology and schools are just as anxious to prove that we are teaching that technology. In many schools, technology is readily available. There seems to be a good, general awareness that kids need to be taught how to sort through and find valuable information since, even for parents, the word "Google" has become a verb.  But what about the act of creation?…See More

About Me:
As librarian, I facilitate learning through the excitement of 21st Century Skills in a technology school in Colorado Springs, CO - Pine Creek High School. I love the prospect of connecting our kids to the world, broadening their views, and giving them a new outlook on collaboration. I took a year in 2011/12 to attend school in Spain, work on micro-business projects in Mexico, and learn tango in Argentina. I still believe "story" is one of the most important parts of our culture. What a great way to create them-sharing our learning discoveries globally in electronic formats!

Interest in Flat Connections
I plan to take the Flat Classroom Teacher certification course. I have several teachers in my school I would like to work with on participating in the Flat Classroom and Eracism for starters. I heard Julie and Vicky speak a few years ago at a conference and was immediately "taken" by their ideas.

The Blood, Sweat, and Eureka of Collaboraton

Most of us have collaborated on a project.  It can definitely be fun to sit around a big table brainstorming, being struck by flashes of insight, reliving related projects, tweaking and adjusting a group idea into something new.  But when it comes to collaboratively creating a piece of writing, a work of art, or some other tangible artifact, the whole game suddenly changes.

Above all else, in school, we learned -- to put our names on our own…

Think you know Digital Citizenship?

So did I!!  Every year I lead a 2 hour discussion with incoming high school freshmen and educate them on what amounts to the shocking horrors of copyright reality.  I teach classes to employees in the District copy center, answer questions from schools all around the district, take part in leading professional development days, serve as a daily resource for teachers and students working on projects - but I was only grazing the tip of the iceberg.  Even when you add in the many Parent Academy…

Hi Susan,

I am heavily into PBL at the moment. My Year 11s (Grade 10) are currently making a study guide for Never Let Me Go and then they'll be doing (IGCSE) exam prep which involves poetry analysis, reading and writing (Descriptive, Imaginative, Argumentative and Discursive). You can see the full exam specs here. Not sure how we could hook up but definitely interested in exploring it further. Let me know when you feel you're ready.

All the best,

Abena
