When the new semester began, I spent much of the first week introducing students to the technology they would be utilizing in my course.   I introduced them to our district-provided Moodle, Diigo, and select GoogleApps, including GoogleDocs, SlideRocket, and GoogleReader.  I helped students set up their GoogleReader with RSS feeds from my teacher blog and our class blog as well as feeds from at least three international news sources.  As we've moved through the course, we've added feeds from the FlatClassroom Project.  During the first three weeks of class, I made sure to schedule time for students to check their Readers in class. If a student was absent from class, I told them to first check their Reader and then to e-mail me if their were any questions.   Although its taken several weeks, most students have finally gotten into the habit of checking their Readers for current events, class activities/reminders, and progress on the Flat Classroom Project.  Below is a screenshot of a Reader from one of my students:

Wow Jessica.  This is fantastic.  I'm curious what subject they are studying.  I really like the way you are making Google Reader and RSS an integrated part of your course.
